    On August 15, Tsumkwe, a small village in Northern Namibia, was able to receive its first, around-the-clock electricity supply in three years thanks to a hybrid solar system completed by juwi Solar. The 200kW system, consisting of a 1MW battery storage unit and three integrated diesel generators, is believed to be one of Africa’s largest off-grid solar systems and supplies Tsumkwe’s public buildings and 100 private households with electricity.

    Conergy has broken new ground by completing work on its maiden North American solar installation in Hawaii. The 320kW system is housed on the roof of Fujifilm’s regional office in Oahu and was developed in partnership with local developer 21st Century.

    Parity Solar has installed a built-in photovoltaics (BIPV) system at the New Area Court House complex in Zhenjiang, China. The crystalline and thin-film modules are being installed over the skylight on the complex’s roof and will have a power generation capacity of 200kW.

    IKEA is planning to install solar panels on the roof of one of its U.S. stores. The 60,000-square foot rooftop array on the Swedish retail giant’s Centennial store will be installed by REC Solar and, pending government permitting, will be opened this autumn.
