Status: Completed

Size: 24MW

Believed to be the largest solar project in the Caribbean, the 24MW Ilumina Project is also said to represent the first utility-scale solar array on the island.

Owned by AES Ilumina, the array has been built on land purchased from the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company (PRIDCO). Construction was led by Global Energy Services, a Philadelphia-based construction firm, and involved installing around 110,000 YGE 60 Cell Series modules supplied by Yingli Green.

Approximately 200 jobs were created during construction. Output generated from the project is being sold to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The financing of the project was provided by MetLife.

It is hoped that the success of the project will help to attract more foreign direct investment in renewable energy projects in Puerto Rico.
