Q-Cells signs 800MW module deal with SunEdison

18 August 2008 | By Mark Osborne | News > PV Modules

Q-CellsIn a joint development to operate PV solar power plants in North America, Q-Cells International USA and SunEdison have signed an 800MW module supply deal over 5-years. The deal comes on the back of another major announcement between PG&E Corp, SunPower Corp and OptiSolar Inc., that will see 800MW of PV modules installed at two sites in San Luis Obispo County, California.

“This development agreement uniquely positions SunEdison to bring solar to a meaningful scale for the industry and our customers,” noted Carlos Domenech, Chief Operating Officer for SunEdison. “As a pioneer of the solar energy services model, we are pleased to bring Q-Cells’ world-class solar technology to the market in the context of a fully managed, long-term solution.”

Various U.S. state mandates call for quotas on electricity generated from renewable sources by the utilities with California utilities having to acquire 20 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2010.

The companies did not announce where the modules would be located or which type of PV technology will be used.
