Taiflex Scientific aims to double solar-module backsheet sales contribution

Through securing materials from DuPont, printed circuit board (PCB) maker Taiflex Scientific anticipates that the sales contribution from its solar-module backsheet production will increase to 8-10% by the end of the year.

Already a key customer of DuPont for polyimide film, Taiflex indicated that DuPont approached the company about its interest over adopting its new Tedlar products two years ago. Since then, Taiflex has deployed its business in the solar-module backsheet market.

Taiflex detailed that it started sampling in late 2007, with shipments of the TUV-certified backsheets starting in January 2008. As of May 2008, the sales contribution from this segment tot total sales is about 5% (or NT$52 million). The company aims to boost the ratio to 8-10% by the end of the year.
