Sunny days are here for those looking into alternative energy sources. Photovoltaic systems, commonly known as solar panels, are a rapidly growing alternative energy source, according to William Korthof, a system designer who ran The Solar Living Institute's workshop on PV systems Thursday at the Lyle Center at Cal Poly Pomona.
"The use of solar has had a 40 percent per year growth rate," said Korthof. "There are more and more people who want to do it. Electricity costs have gone up by at least double in the last 10 years, and that's influencing people to consider solar."
Thursday was the first of a two-day workshop shining a light on the basics of using solar energy.
