Leading
CPV (Concentrated Photovoltaics) cell producer Emcore announced today
that it entered into two new supply agreements for solar cells and
receivers with a total value of over $40 million. The larger of the two
purchase contracts is a multi-year supply agreement for solar cells, to
be delivered over four years.
The primary application for CPV is in large-scale commercial and utility grade power generation facilities. While the global market for CPV is driven by Spain, Emcore’s latest order is earmarked for deployment in California to take advantage of the attractive government support of the solar industry. Production for these orders has commenced and approximately $1 million of product is expected to be shipped in the present quarter.
Emcore was the first company to provide its customers with a 20-year performance warranty making them extremely attractive to the long-term financers, typical in the power generation segment of the market.
