Emcore Corp. said Wednesday it received two orders last month for solar cell receivers worth $29 million combined. The buyers were not identified. Production of the receivers has begun, and shipments are expected within the next 24 months.
The receivers will be used in solar farm and commercial rooftop installations that use so-called concentrating photovoltaic technology. Such technology uses a large area of lenses or mirrors to receive and focus sunlight on a small area of solar cells to generate electricity. Emcore provides semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber-optic, satellite and terrestrial solar power markets.
