Recently, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection - Office of the State Fire Marshal, local Fire Departments (FD), and the solar photovoltaic industry have developed a guideline for installations to increase public safety for all structures equipped with solar photovoltaic systems. Besides marking, setback requirements do not apply to ground-mounted, freestanding photovoltaic arrays. A clear brush area of ten feet (10') is required for ground mounted photovoltaic arrays.
