Mitsubishi
Electric has revealed plans to expand photovoltaic solar cell
production to 500MW by 2012, up from the current 150MW capability
established in 2007. The company will invest approximately $72 million
in its 2008 fiscal year to boost capacity to 220MW.
Capital expenditure will be allocated to its Nakatsugawa Works Iida Factory (Nagano Prefecture) for solar cell production and modules, at its Nakatsugawa Works Kyoto Factory.
Mitsubishi has gradually expanded production over the years, with capacity increasing to 35MW in January 2003, then to 50MW in September 2003, then to 90MW in June 2004, to 135MW in April 2005 and to 150MW in 2007.
