Flat, flexible shiny cells that harness the power of the sun may be the answer to a local roofing company's need to save on energy costs and pave the way to increasing its commercial sales.
Sutter Roofing Co. of Florida is installing photovoltaic cells on the roof of its headquarters off Fruitville Road near I-75 as a demonstration project so its commercial clients can see up close the advantages of generating their own electric power from the sun. The company also expects to cut its energy consumption by 20 percent a month.
The system of solar modules called Advanced Green Technologies FlexLight PV Laminate is manufactured by United Solar Ovonic in Michigan. Sutter Roofing is a distributor of the product.
Businesses are constantly looking for ways to cut energy consumption, experts say, and more are turning to solar power as a way to do that.
