Solar-Powered Navajo homes in N.M.

A $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will enable Sacred Power Corp., Albuquerque, N.M., to install hybrid solar photovoltaic systems on remote Navajo homes in New Mexico, the New Mexico Business Weekly reports.

The renewable energy company will use $2 million to work with the Birdsprings and Coppermine chapters of the Navajo Nation and $1 million for the Inscription House Chapter, U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., said in a news release.

"Many parts of the Navajo nation lack access to clean energy," Domenici said. "USDA funds will help Sacred Power Corporation provide reliable and renewable energy to residents of the Navajo Nation."
