Intersolar EU: juwi Solar on challenging the perception that solar is still expensive

Despite greater awareness surrounding the capabilities of solar energy generation, there remains a true lack of understanding by Governments and politicians in particular, that continue to hold the belief that solar energy is still expensive. In an interview with PV-Tech at Intersolar Europe, 2011 Lars Falck, President of juwi Solar GmbH, a major PV project developer within the industry, discusses mistakes being made by decision makers over PV schemes such as feed-in tariffs or the lack of them. He also offers the UK government and Energy Minister, Greg Barker the opportunity to really understand the true costs associated with PV adoption and highlights mistakes being made in Germany after the decision to shutdown all nuclear power plants by 2022.

Empirical data is better than words.  To convince ill-formed voters and politicians of the merits and/or demerits of a particular energy technologies we need to have a study written and available for academics and practitioners to assess and critique.  Once the facts are known and held to account we can leverage that information to make informed decisions on renewable energy policy. Preaching to the converted is not sufficient to win the public relations battle that carbon-nuclear lobbyists have honed to great success.  After-all, how else do you explain voters contempt for renewable energy tariffs after warnings of Peak Oil, Global Warming and nuclear melt-downs and accidents?

    Photovoltaics International 16th Edition

This sixteenth edition of Photovoltaics International marks four years of production of the quarterly journal. As always, our focus is on efficiency and quality improvement and cost reduction in manufacturing. As 2012 rolls along, companies are falling by the wayside due to supply and demand issues, ASP declines and drastic governmental subsidy cuts. A clear picture of 2012 is offered through papers from the likes of TÜV Rheinland, Fraunhofer ISE, SEMI PV Group and EPIA, amongst others.
