Building a presence in solar power has been the growing trend among companies with experience making and manufacturing semiconductors, but not everyone is angling for a slice of the market.Novellus Systems Inc. (NVLS) Chief Executive Rick Hill remains skeptical about the need to build a solar business in order to achieve growth, and believes the craze for thin-film panels won't prove as lucrative for Novellus as focusing on other areas of strength, including tools for industrial products and the still high-growth chip sector.
