Global Solar Energy claims new CIGS performance and manufacturing figures

Global Solar Energy has claimed that in December, 2007 it became the
first Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) thin-film solar
manufacturer to achieve an average of 10 percent solar cell efficiency
on a flexible substrate over ‘several production runs.’

Spire Semiconductor, a subsidiary of Spire Corporation, is to offer a
contract design and manufacturing service to manufacturers of solar
concentrator cells at its 50,000 square foot facility in Hudson, New
Hampshire. Under its ‘Captive Custom Capacity’ initiative, Spire
Semiconductor will leverage its production experience in gallium
arsenide (GaAs) solar cells, wafer epitaxy and other thin film products
and has an expandable capacity of 50MW per annum.

AOS Solar, a thin film silicon-on-glass start-up of
2005, claims that it is aiming to achieve a 90 percent reduction in the
amount of silicon its technology requires with a 50 percent energy
budget reduction and a reduction in capital equipment costs of 50
percent. This combination of crystalline silicon (c-Si) PV efficiency
with thin film manufacturing economics will be presented for the first
time at the www.ibfconferences.com nanotechnology investment forum in Palm Springs, February 6. Global Warming Solutions claims further efficiency breakthroughs with LETG technology

XsunX reveals thin-film manufacturing plan for 2008

XsunX, Inc has outlined its plans for 2008 in relation to its amorphous
silicon tandum junction thin film photovoltaic (TFPV) solar module
manufacturing. XsunX secured $21 million in November 2007 for its first
25 MW facility and expects to place orders with select vendors for the
core and sub-system components in 2008.

Tool Order: Oerlikon Solar receives new micromorph tandem production line orders

Oerlikon Solar has received separate thin-film micromorph tandem solar
module production line contracts from Taiwan’s Auria Solar Co. Ltd. and
Italy’s Pramac SpA for 60MWp and 30MWp, respectively.

HelioVolt Corporation has settled on a site in the Expo Business Park
in Austin, Texas for its initial 20MW copper indium gallium selenide
(CIGS) thin film solar production plant. Construction of the facility
will be financed by the company’s Series B funding round, which
recently closed at $101 million. HelioVolt expects the new factory to
create more than 150 additional jobs in the region.

Nanosolar has said that it has started production at its Copper Indium
Gallium Diselenide (CIGS) roll-to-roll PV manufacturing line at a
former Cisco manufacturing facility in San Jose, California.
