Having been inundated with tales of doom and gloom from the industry, the PV Newscast team this week presents some good news and some bad. We've seen several key players reduce their workforce over the past week, with Roth & Rau, Bekaert and Sanyo all announcing job losses as a result of the solar shakeout. Polysilicon oversupply isn't helping the situation either, as ASPs are down as much as 42% on last year's costs. But there's always some good news to counter the bad, with Alta Devices' reporting of a record 23.5% efficiency for its GaAs-based solar panels and Suntech's signing of an R&D agreement with DuPont to buck our spirits.
