67RK 8ME, a subsidiary of 8minutenergy Renewables, and Saferay have signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Southern California Edison (SCE).
Under the PPA — which is awaiting approval from the California Public Utilities Commission — SCE will purchase electricity generated by the proposed 20MW Redcrest Solar Farm in Kern County, California which will be jointly developed and constructed by 67RK 8ME and Saferay.
Construction of the project is slated to begin in 2014 and will be built on 64.8 hectares of low productivity farmland. The project is scheduled to complete and become operational by mid-2015, delivering around 48 million kWh of electricity every year.
“We are grateful that SCE has awarded this PPA in its competitive RAM process. This is the third PPA in the last 12 months that we've secured, for a total capacity of over 325MW,” said Martin Hermann, chief executive officer of 8minutenergy Renewables. “We are pleased that utilities and county, state and local officials have confidence in the ability of 8minutenergy and Saferay to deliver on our solar projects.”
