Renewable energy company Acciona Energia will construct 255MW worth of solar and wind projects in Chile over the next few years, thanks to a total investment of US$500 million.
Electricity generated by these plants will be used as part of a 15-year deal reached between Acciona and Chilean power distributors that will see Acciona supply 600GWh a year thanks to a new tender from Chile’s National Energy Comission.
Acciona will now look to sign energy contracts with a grouping of distributors in wake of the new tender. All of these distributors are working within the Central Interconnected System — Chile’s main electricity grid.
Rafael Mateo, CEO of Acciona Energia, said: “It is a very positive outcome that will strengthen our position in Chile and allow us to make a significant contribution to the country’s objective of achieving a more sustainable energy matrix.”
