Air Products has connected the newly-completed 2MW solar system at its worldwide headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania to the grid.
The installation, which is the largest silicon thin-film system in the US, was unveiled on Tuesday, with company chairman and CEO John McGlade officially switching it on for the first time. It will cater for more than 50% of the company’s annual energy requirements.
Funding for the development came courtesy of Air Products and a US$1 million grant from Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, while silicon thin-film panels were provided by Air Products’ customers Astronergy and ENN Solar.
“It is really special to be able to demonstrate our customers' products and begin generating clean, renewable energy for our campus. It is a great opportunity for employees, our community and our customers to witness first-hand how our innovative products deliver sustainable solutions for photovoltaics customers,” McGlade said.
