As part of efforts to fully-utilize is state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Prenzlau, Germany, aleo solar is dissolving its low-cost module manufacturing joint venture in Gaomi, China. aleo solar said that avim solar production would be closed down completely, citing inadequate margins due to the continuous price declines, especially for non-premium modules.
“Sustainably cost-effective production is no longer possible at Gaomi due to the price drop, particularly for Chinese modules,” says York zu Putlitz, CEO and CFO of aleo solar. “In the low-price segment, it is no longer possible to achieve adequate margins. aleo solar will supply only the premium segment in the future.”
The plant, based in Gaomi, China had a production capacity of only 90MW and employed 246 workers. The Gaomi plant began production at the end of 2008.
Previously, aleo solar had announced it would close its small-scale (20MW) production facility in Spain by the end of 2012 as it focused on maximising its main German facility. In the first six months of this year, aleo solar produced 197.7MW of modules.
