PV module manufacturer aleo solar, a subsidiary of Taiwan-based wafer producer Sino American Silicon Products (SAS) is to expand into producing 200MW of solar cells at its plant in Germany.
Aleo solar said that solar cell production operations would be undertaken by aleo Sunrise GmbH which has been established as a 100% subsidiary of aleo solar with an investment by SAS of around €15 million (US$16.7 million) and the creation of around 100 jobs.
Günter Schulze, CEO of aleo solar GmbH said: “Aleo solar will benefit from greater flexibility through the cell production in Germany and will be well positioned across the photovoltaic value chain. With both cells and modules made in Germany we protect ourselves against anti-dumping duties and cost increases through exchange rate fluctuations. By integrating an additional production step at our headquarters in Germany, our engineers can also better fuse together the cell and module technologies.”
The addition of 200MW of solar cell production closely matches its module manufacturing capacity and is expected to be operational in 2016, processing both multicrystalline and monocrystalline cells.
