Work to install a 29.2kWp rooftop PV system has been completed at German football club Bayern Munich’s training facility, installed by Chinese company Yingli Green.
Yingli was one of the sponsors at the recent football World Cup in Brazil, making it the first solar company to do so and the first Chinese company in history to sponsor the event and has been an official sponsor, or “premium partner” to Bayern Munich since 2011.
The newly completed system will produce more than 31,000kWh of clean energy a year at Sabener Strasse training facility. Yingli claims it will save the equivalent of 21,000kg of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The PV plant will eventually be connected to an LCD display that shows readouts of generation data at Sabener Strasse’s visitor centre.
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said the project helped the club to commit to a “sustainable economy”.
“As our renewable partner, Yingli has supplied their PV modules to help FC Bayern Munich become one of the greenest clubs. We are very happy to have Yingli as part of the FC Bayern Munich family,” he said.
“We both share a passion for football and place great value on the environment, our cultures and traditions.”
