BayWa and Wirsol are joining forces to build a 70MW solar park in southern Spain. The system will cost an estimated €150 million and be located 70km northwest of Alicante.
Building work will begin next summer, with the plant connected to the grid in several stages, the last of which is scheduled for January 2013. Engineering, procurement and construction is to be carried out by BayWa España.
Despite the challenging economic climate in Spain, Iberia’s high irradiance levels continue to entice project developers. “… the solar park can supply around 130,000 people with environmentally friendly power”, BayWa CEO Klaus Josef Lutz said.
“The Alicante project has caused quite a sensation in crisis-ridden Spain. The fact that we are working together with BayWa on this scale is a strong signal,” André Oechsler, the managing director of Wirsol Spain, added.
