Having halted PV module manufacturing operations in 2009, BP plans to exit the sector entirely with offloading its stake in projects said to be in the region of 158MW, according to Bloomberg. Approximately 100 employees will be affected and ends over 40-years of involvement in the PV industry.
Despite significant financial resources, which has become a key criteria in the project sector it had concentrated on since existing module manufacturing, BP’s decision to exit the industry altogether shouldn’t come as surprise to anyone in the industry. BP has shown little if any real commitment to its PV operations in over a decade.
Bloomberg quoted an energy analyst as saying the move was a “non-event.”
