LC Eletrônica, a Brazilian LCD screen manufacturer is to expand its solar output, according to local press reports.
The company has already built one PV facility but president Marcelo Soares Minhós told local press that with orders stacking up, they would now have to build another.
“We just built a factory and we have to build another one,” he is quoted as saying by the newspaper O Tempo.
Minhós said the first facility represented an investment of Rs200 million (US$81.7 million).
Solar has stumbled in Brazil recently as it could not match onshore wind in competitive tenders. With solar-only auctions now lined-up and increasing domestic manufacturing, market analysts expect the market to start delivering projects soon.
NPD Solarbuzz has estimated that 9GW of projects will be installed in Latin America and Caribbean during the next five years.
