Canadian Solar will supply its photovoltaic (PV) modules to Catalina Solar 2, a 24.3MWp power plant being developed by EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) in the Mojave Desert in California.
Catalina Solar 2 was among three projects totalling 42MW of generation capacity in California sold by EDF RE to energy producer Dominion in mid-September. That deal will close on installation, with EDF RE responsible for management, commissioning and development of the plant.
A 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been agreed for the horizontal single-axis tracker project, which will be built on a 110 hectare site in Kern County. Construction of the 24.3MWp/ 18MWac will begin in the fourth quarter of this year, with the plant expected to begin commercial operation in the second quarter of 2015.
Canadian Solar will supply 83,000 CS6X-P modules in a 7×12 matrix, customised to the project’s specifications, with the order expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
