LDK Solar is to supply 440MW of multicrystalline solar wafers to Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) over a 7-year contracted period. In February, 2008, HHI signed a ‘Take or Pay’ 450MW deal with LDK Solar starting in 2008 through 2015.

ET Solar Group Corp has teamed with the Wattner Group from Germany to supply and install 50MW worth of solar projects in Southern Europe over the next 5 years. The contract is said to be worth €200 million to ET Solar and will use approximately 12,000 PV modules.

First Solar has extended its existing agreement with 5N Plus for the supply of high-purity cadmium telluride and cadmium sulfide materials used to manufacture the thin-film PV market leader's CdTe modules. The deal will be extended one year, to July 31, 2012, and will apply to specialty chemicals produced at both 5N Plus' Montreal headquarters facility and its newly operational plant in Germany.

AVA Solar has raised $104 million in a second round of funding led by DCM as well as Technology Partners, GLG Partners and Bohemian Companies, LLC and Invus, LP. The money will be used to complete its 200MW CdTe thin film plant in Longmont, Colorado. AVA Solar had previously said that it would start production in the second-half of 2008.

Nanosolar has said that it plans to speed up the ramp of its Copper Indium Gallium Diselenide (CIGS) roll-to-roll PV manufacturing lines in San Jose, California and Berlin, Germany on the back of a new $300 million round of funding. Nanosolar said that its annual capacity at its San Jose facility was 430MW and its Berlin facility had a 620MW capacity.

Manz Automation and ROFIN-SINAR Technologies have formed a new partnership to develop and sell a new integrated tool that combines laser edge ablation and laser cutting of thin-film solar modules. The companies expect the new tool to reduce thin film production costs and improve yields. The new tool will be developed over the next twelve months.

Solarworld Ag today announced the achievement of a major milestone. The one hundred millionth solar cell from Deutsche Cell GmbH, the cell manufacturing division of SOLARWORLD AG, was released to the market today. The total number of solar cells manufactured since the start of production in the year 2002 is equivalent to the size of 270 football pitches.

Amtech Systems, Inc. (ASYS) announced that its solar subsidiary, Tempress Systems, Inc., has received a $7.5 million follow-on solar order for its diffusion processing systems from an existing customer based in Asia.

Suntech Power Holdings signed new supply agreements with GCL Silicon Technology, under which GCL will supply 9420 metric tons of polysilicon and 1.1 GW of silicon wafers to the Chinese photovoltaic solar cell and module manufacturer from 2008 to 2012.
