Centrosolar has commissioned its first anti-reflective coating glass line in Huzhou, China as part of a partnership with a Chinese firm and subsidiary Centrosolar Glas. The facility will be supplying Chinese PV module manufacturers with anti-reflective layered glass for crystalline-based PV modules. According to Centrosolar the new production line has an annual capacity of 1.8 million m2 of specialised PV glass.
“The Asian market has become a very interesting prospect for our solar glass business,” noted Dr. Alexander Kirsch, Chairman, Centrosolar. “But in the long run it simply doesn’t make sense to ship coated panes of glass across the oceans. We are now much closer to our Asian customers. The partnership with a well-known, reliable partner for raw-glass production offers further advantages in terms of quality and costs.”
Centrosolar Glas currently exports AR glass grades from its production plant in Fürth, Germany, to destinations ranging from the USA to the Far East but low cost regions such as China were already using lower cost glass from large glass manufacturers in the country.
According to Centrosolar Glas, anti-reflective increases the power yield of PV modules by up to 6%.
