Southern California’s Jurupa Unified School District recently revealed its new partnership with Chevron Energy Solutions, which will see the two entities develop a 2.7MW solar and energy efficiency project that will save the district an estimated US$34 million. In addition to constructing a solar array on parking shade structures across nine of the district’s campuses’ the project will also replace 400 air conditioning units and upgrade over 21,000 lighting fixtures.
Chevron Energy Solutions will design, engineer, install, operate and maintain the PV system. In addition, along with guaranteeing energy-saving performance from the upgrade, Chevron will also be responsible for efficiency improvements that will see better lighting throughout the school district.
Jurupa Unified School District teachers will have the opportunity to benefit from curriculum materials and hands-on experiments for students developed by Chevron that not only follow state education standards, but promote an environmentally conscious and aware education.
“As the leader in solar and energy efficiency projects for America's educational institutions, we are proud to work with Jurupa Unified School District to improve the learning environment for students,” said Chevron Energy Solutions President Jim Davis. “The district is investing in sustainable programs that will deliver ongoing value to the community's students.”
A groundbreaking event to celebrate the implementation of the project is being held this afternoon at the district's Education Center in Jurupa. Students, district representatives, government and business officials are expected to participate.
