N-type monocrystalline wafer producer, Comtec Solar Systems Group said that recent qualification starts by two potentially new unidentified customers coupled to estimated demand growth would lead to a 300MW capacity expansion.
Comtec Solar is believed to have ramped its 1GW nameplate Malaysian facility to around 550MW, suggesting the latest expansion would take capacity to around 850MW.
The wafer producer said that the expansion of its N-type ‘Super Mono Wafers’ was expected to begin during the second-half of 2014 and take a year to ramp to full production.
SunPower is expected to complete a new 300MW solar cell plant in the Philippines and start pilot production at the end of the year. Suniva has just announced a 200MW module expansion that would start ramping at the end of the year. Both companies use N-Type mono wafers.
