Conergy is set to expand its European project portfolio by installing two new PV power systems in Germany. In addition to taking on engineering, procurement and construction responsibilities for Grimmen’s 8.2MW and Thalham’s 1.2MW solar parks, Conergy will also fully equip and operate both sites.

“These two major projects, producing in total over 9MW, are a clear sign of an upswing in the market in the fourth quarter – even in the German domestic market”, Conergy managing director Stefan Balbierz said. “But it is also a sign that private investors are thinking long-term and hence preferring to invest in quality Conergy systems that are manufactured under one roof.”

With financing and permitting finalised by project developer EBB Renewable Energy, building work has already begun on the Grimmen park, which is located in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern town’s industrial district. The first installation phase is due to be completed by the end of the year, and by the time it is at full capacity in 2012 it will be providing electricity for around 60% of Grimmen’s population.

”The North is increasingly also warming to solar energy in addition to the traditional wind energy,” Balbierz said. “Since 2006, the volume of solar energy generated in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern each year has risen more than tenfold. In 2010, the sun thus supplied 43,000 households with clean energy. This means that the ‘Energy Switch’ decided by the politicians has already arrived here.”

Nine-hundred kilometers away in southern Bavaria, Conergy is carrying out final preparations before building work begins on its second turnkey installation in Thalham in December. The park, which is the first solar venture in the Hintz family’s investment portfolio, will span 2.4 hectares and feed 1,300MWh of electricity into the south German grid with the help of 5,000 Conergy PowerPlus modules and 70 Conergy IPG 15 T inverters.

“We have done everything ourselves, including leasing the land, getting the building permits and organising the financing. So we are really proud of our park”, said Dr. Johannes Hintz. “With Conergy as our partner, we had the support of real solar experts right from the start, and they always provided us with excellent advice. Every area, including the design, system components and maintenance comes with the assurance of quality provided by the 'Made in Germany' label and a full service package.”

The rooftop solar PV market is set for significant growth, but installers are being held back by complicated design software that is slow, cumbersome and fails to take into account rooftop shading, module compatibility and energy storage. Huawei’s SmartDesign 2.0 is a web-based PV and energy storage system tool that promises to solve all of those issues, and much more. This webinar will provide a live demonstration of the SmartDeisgn 2.0 tool, showing how installers can quickly complete Huawei PV & ESS system designs and assemble a professional report with 3D site view for potential customers, streamlining the design and sales service.
