Suntech CEO Dr. Zhengrong Shi has been appointed to the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
ATSE, an independent, non-government organisation, selects professionals according to their success in influencing engineering and science in Australia. Inaugurated in Melbourne, the organisation has worked to promote science and engineering for practical purposes since February 1976.
“One of ATSE’s roles is to help shape how Australia debates and tackles some of the major challenges of our times such as energy and climate change,” said Professor Robin Batterham, President of ATSE. “I have no doubt that the Academy will benefit from Dr. Shi’s expertise in these areas and his outstanding contribution to the implementation of viable solutions.”
Dr. Shi was elected to the fellowship in Brisbane, Australia at the organisation’s 34th Annual General Meeting. He joins the ranks of several newly elected fellows who have received the award in recognition of work in areas such as science, medicine and humanitarianism.
“I am honored to be confirmed as a fellow of this prestigious academy,” Dr. Shi said. “Australian scientists and engineers make extraordinary contributions to all fields of global scientific endeavour and Australian technology is helping to drive many young and rapidly growing industries. I am particularly excited about the growth of the solar industry in Australia as it is home to some of the best technology and solar resources in the world.”
