Dunmore Europe advised that it has invested US$17 million in the upgrade and expansion of its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Freiburg, Germany. The company stated that the enhancements are being made to support increasing demand for its coated and laminated products in the solar, automotive, insulation and aerospace industries.
Upon the completion of its update, the Freiburg facility will feature a new coating line for coated and laminated products sporting widths of over two meters. The new coating line will connect two existing lines, which make films for applications such as solar PV backsheets, insulation films and high-performance labels.
Dunmore claims that its new production line will be able to run at varying speeds ranging from 30 meters per minute to 400 meters per minute, which will help expand the breadth of coatings and products for the European and Asian markets. The facility’s line will also feature updated process controls, video inspection systems and advanced instrumentation for better quality control. Development on the project has begun with the expansion set to be completed during the summer of 2012.
“We’ve been able to meet customers’ needs for varying film widths in the past, but this new coating line enables us to produce them more quickly and efficiently, which effectively increases our production capacity,” said Tom Rimel, Dunmore vice president of operations and development. “Customers that produce labels and graphics often make stock that’s more than two meters wide, so we’re better matched up with our customers’ assets.”
