Eaton Corporation advised that it had signed a US$8.1 million contract with Abengoa Solar to provide its electrical power distribution system equipment to the 280MW Solana generating station in Arizona.
The contract will see Eaton’s electrical division provide an Abengoa subsidiary with electrical power distribution assemblies, engineering and consulting services for Solana. The CSP project is expected to begin operation in 2013.
“Solana is a unique project that will help position Arizona as a leader in alternative energy and overall reduction of carbon dioxide emissions,” said Kevin McLean, senior vice president of global marketing for the electrical sector at Eaton. “By combining the reliability and efficiency of Eaton’s electrical distribution system with Solana’s highly-innovative technology and energy storage capabilities, the project can serve as a model for other utility providers.”
