Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN) is to advise the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) on the construction of its new test facility for PV systems. The advisory role will also see ECN train staff at KISR, the Ministry of Electricity and Water and the Ministry of Education, and help develop a roadmap for sustainable energy in the Arab state.
The PV industry in Kuwait is still in its infancy and as a result KISR are unsure how solar technology will respond under the country’s harsh weather conditions. And the new facility will help address this by testing solar panels and accompanying electronics for efficiency and endurance in the Kuwaiti desert and its accompanying heat, sand and cold.
KISR and ECN have also announced plans to carry out further joint testing ventures in the future to help continue the development of Kuwait's renewable energy sector.
