EDF EN Canada, a division of EDF Energies Nouvelles, advised that its second 11.8MW St. Isidore solar project in Ontario had entered commercial operation. The project, St. Isidore B, consists of two solar PV arrays located within 4 miles of each other and began delivering electricity to the Hydro One distribution grid in late December 2011.
The St. Isidore B solar array uses 152,000 panels, which will help it meet the peak demands of about 3,500 Ontario homes. Combined with the St. Isidore A project, the solar farm will deliver a combined 24MW of power under the Government of Ontario’s Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (RESOP). enXco Service Canada will manage the long-term operations and maintenance services.
Jon Kieran, director of solar development for EDF EN Canada, said, “We are proud to extend the benefits of solar energy to the St Isidore community, both economic and environmental. This project will bring the total capacity we have developed and built in Eastern Ontario to over 70MW of solar energy, making EDF EN one of the top solar developers in Ontario and more generally in Canada.”
