PV energy production in the US is continuing to build at an impressive rate, as a new report from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) revealed that PV generation within the country has more than doubled over the last year.
From June 2013 to June 2014, the US generated over 12,000,000MWh of solar power, grossly outperforming the 5,655,000MWh produced from June 2012 to June 2013.
PV power has come a long way since 2004, when the US was only generating 6,000MWh. In 2013, the annual total of solar production in the US was 8,327,000MWh.
The growth of solar in the US has been a hot topic for the EIA as of late. In early April, the administration released a report highlighting the rapid growth of the PV sector in the country, announcing that solar made up for almost 25% of the US’ new generating capacity in 2013. PV only accounted for 6% of the US’ utility-scale generating capacity in 2012.
