Californian manufacturer of power management systems eIQ Energy has announced it will be working in partnership with Abound Solar and BiPV systems-manufacturer Focus Materials, to produce a new range of PV glass and aluminium curtain walls.
eIQ Energy’s vBoost DC-to-DC converter modules are to be integrated into Focus Materials’s Focus Walls, along with Abound’s CdTe thin-film solar modules. Focus Materials, also based in California, will position the constant-voltage converters in the glass support structure, hidden from view from building users. The converters also allow for the solar modules to be connected in parallel, so that damaged or poorly-performing modules do not hinder the overall performance of the system. According to eIQ Energy, the use of their vBoost modules will increase the cost of typical curtain wall systems by approximately 30%.
“We're happy to participate in this groundbreaking technology partnership,” said Michael Lamb, vice president of business development for eIQ Energy. “Our Parallel Solar vBoost modules are ideally suited for large-scale building solar arrays, where they can not only improve the systems' overall energy output, but also contribute to lower materials and installation costs.”
