Component and subsystems provider EMCORE has agreed to terms on a long-term supply deal with Lockheed Martin Space Systems to design and construct multi-junction Coverglass Interconnected Cells (CICs) for Lockheed’s satellite programme.
The CICs provided through this new deal are part of EMCORE’s new ZTJ triple-junction solar cells and will be created at EMCORE’s manufacturing facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
EMCORE solar cells and panels have helped provide power to over 130 space missions since 2001, the company said.
Dr. Brad Clevenger, executive vice president and general manager of EMCORE’s Photovoltaics division, said: “This agreement with Lockheed Martin is one of the most significant contract awards in EMCORE's recent history and results from many years of productive collaboration between our two companies. We are very pleased to enter into this next phase of our relationship and look forward to powering Lockheed Martin's next generation of programs for many years to come.”
