CPV solar cell manufacturer Emcore continues to narrow quarterly losses in its fourth-quarter and year-end financial results. The consolidated operating loss was US$21.4 million, an improvement of US$119.6 million, or 85%, from the US$141.0 million operating loss reported in the prior year. The quarterly consolidated operating loss was US$1.8 million, an improvement of $6.5 million, or 78%, from the $8.3 million operating loss reported in the preceding quarter.
Revenue in the fourth quarter from its photovoltaics segment was US$19.7 million, a 30% sequential increase over the preceding quarter. Photovoltaics gross margin for the year was 32.3%, up from13.6% gross margin reported in 2009.
Overall consolidated revenue for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2010 was US$191.3 million, an increase of US$14.9 million, from $176.4 million reported in the prior year, an 8% increase.
Its photovoltaics segment order backlog reached US$52.9 million, a 25%, increase from US$42.5 million reported for the preceding quarter.
