Enphase Energy is launching the next-generation ‘Envoy-S’ gateway that serves as the control of the Enphase Energy Management System, an integrated, scalable platform for solar generation, control, energy management and storage. Greatly enhanced hardware and software enables more cost-effective and reliable solar installations while adding significant value for system owners.
Traditional PV systems provided owners and installers with limited ability and difficulty understanding and interpreting energy-related consumption and operational performance data. With energy storage adoption due to increasing demand for self consumption microinverters as well as improved access to all levels of system operational data are required. Providing installers and owners the ability to manage and understand system requirements is essential for future adoption and usage, while providing sophisticated interaction with grids and utilities.
Envoy-S provides energy usage insights, remote update capabilities and load management. Designed to work with all Enphase microinverters, Envoy-S features consumption monitoring, revenue-grade metering, integrated Wi-Fi and flexible networking options and optional AT&T cellular connectivity via AT&T’s Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Improved software and graphics (GUI) enable better data presentation for owners to better manage and control overall energy consumption. Enphase is also introducing the AC Combiner Box that is intended to maximize the features and benefits of the revenue-grade metered Envoy-S. The device is claimed to help cut solar installation time by as much as 50%, and reduces interconnection and communications equipment costs by as much as 20%, according to trials organised by Enphase. The AC Combiner Box is an outdoor-ready enclosure built to withstand exterior weather conditions.
Energy usage management of residential and commercial PV and storage systems.
The Envoy-S will be available in metered or standard versions. Provides consumption monitoring for total energy insight that has ‘revenue grade’ accuracy and ANSI C.12.20 compliant. Bi-directional communications lets Envoy adapt to future utility requirements. Flexible networking options with integrated Wi-Fi and ready for plug-play cellular networking that can connect up to 600 microinverters. In addition, Enphase offers Enphase ‘Mobile Connect’, a cellular modem with service provided by AT&T IoT technology that reliable independent Internet connectivity. To ease the process of installation, Mobile Connect is integrated into the Envoy-S through the AC Combiner Box. Installers can now ensure reliable Internet connectivity is consistent and reliable independent of the Internet setup in the home.
The Enphase Envoy-S will be available in North America starting in Q4 2015.
