At the EPIA Annual General Meeting on March 19, 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany, the assembly re-elected Dr. Winfried Hoffmann from Applied Materials as President until 2010. In addition Anton Milner of Q-Cells SE, has been named Vice President and Stephan Hansen of First Solar entered the Board as Director. The meeting also celebrated EPIA surpassing the landmark figure of 200 members and sharing the association’s strategic orientations for the future.
Hoffmann, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the Solar Business Group at Applied Materials, was re-elected by members with 82% of the votes to fill the seat of President, which had been vacant since October 2008 when Ernesto Macias resigned. CEO and cofounder of Q-Cells Anton Milner received 78% of votes to become Vice President.
The new Board Director, German-born Stephan Hansen, is Managing Director at First Solar. After graduating from the University of Stuttgart in 1993, he had worked in the fields of business process re-engineering, optimisation of production and strategy and new business development. Prior to joining First Solar as Managing Director, he worked in the PV sector in managerial positions for companies of distribution, system integration and module manufacturing in Germany and the U.S. for three years. As Managing Director at First Solar, he was accountable for worldwide sales of modules, customer service and the implementation of Business Development strategies in EMEA.
