For the third year in succession, Oerlikon Solar has received Solar PV Management magazine’s award for Thin-Film Innovations. Oerlikon won thanks to its new production line, ThinFab, with the award handed out at a ceremony during this week’s 26th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Hamburg.
Thin-Fab is aimed at the mass production of ecologically-sustainable thin-film silicon modules, and in June Oerlikon received its first order from a customer based in Asia. Since ThinFab’s launch, the company has also received upgrade orders from various pre-existing clients.
“The presentation of the Solar Industry Award 2011 for our ThinFab fills us with pride, and in addition to the sale of our first 120MW micromorph production line to Asia, confirms the high level of acceptance and innovative strength of our thin film silicon solar technology,” Oerlikon CEO Helmut Frankenberger said at the ceremony.
“Winning the Solar Industry Award for the third time has confirmed our investments in research and development, and our pioneering position in the field of thin film technology. We will continue to offer our customers top-notch production quality with competitive cost efficiency in the future,” added Oerlikon’s head of sales and marketing, Peter Tinner.
