The aim of the event, which will be continued at Intersolar North America in mid-July, was to bring globally active companies and local installers together to strike up conversations on the solar market’s future. With governmental decisions affecting countries’ installation plans on what feels like a weekly basis, the Joint Forces for Solar initiative intends to aid those countries in overcoming these obstacles and hurdles.
Markus A.W. Hoehner, CEO of EuPD Research, opened the session by highlighting the importance of the European photovoltaic markets via a global comparison. The organisation’s director, Daniela Schreiber, delivered a keynote speech that presented current market data, showing that Europe boasts close to 77% of Europe’s installed PV capacity.
An hour-long panel discussion on the topic of “The European Solar Landscape – From an Installer Perspective” rounded off the event, concluding that there is a need for more solidarity between the major players in the solar industry. The general public needs to be educated as to the facts, benefits and the future of solar technology, particularly with the decisions in regard to nuclear power that have been made of late. Furthermore, the panel discussion members and audience alike concluded that there should be a greater focus on strengthening of distribution channels to ensure that solar is considered a viable and environmentally friendly option across the board.
The panel discussion members featured: Hanna Walter, Head of Strategic Marketing, Bosch Solar Energy AG; Lars Waldmann, Director Public Relations, Schott Solar AG; Arturo Herrero, Chief Marketing Officer, Jinko Solar; John Harald Gronningen, Vice President Sales and Marketing, REC; Björn Emde, Head of Communications, Suntech Power Europe; David Owen, CEO, Solar Media Ltd. and Gerhard Stryi-Hipp, Head of Energy Policy at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Sysytems.
At Intersolar North America, the Joint Forces for Solar US event will take place on July 12th, 2011 from 3.30 pm to 6 pm. There are also plans to extend the initiative to feature at the Intersolar China event. Further information on the Joint Forces for Solar Global effort is available here.
