Bankrupt PV company Evergreen Solar will have its manufacturing equipment sold under auction. The equipment and any other related assets go under the hammer on November 1, via an auction to be undertaken by Hilco Industrial on behalf of the US Bankruptcy Court.
The Evergreen Solar equipment and assets come from its manufacturing facilities in Devens, MA, and its string plant in Midland, MI. According to Hilco, Evergreen had invested over US$$425 million in the facilities, though didn’t mention that a significant portion of the machinery was custom designed to work with Evergreens smaller-sized wafers as part of its proprietary ‘String Ribbon’ technology.
However, interested parties should include Sovello, the other licensed IP holder of String Ribbon, and Evergreen’s Chinese-based partners, which manufacture wafers, cells, and modules in a subcontracting arrangement, announced in 2010.
