Michael Splinter, Chairman and CEO of Applied Materials, is to move upstairs to become executive chairman of the Board of Directors, relinquishing his CEO role to current President, Gary Dickerson.
The move, which will become effective at the beginning of September, 2013 is the first major top executive change at Applied Materials since Splinter joined as President and CEO from Intel Corporation in 2003.
Dickerson joined Applied Materials in 2011, when the company acquired Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates. He had been at Varian for seven years and 18-years before that at KLA-Tencor.
“As president, Gary has proved to be an outstanding leader and partner, focusing Applied on new strategies for profitable growth through our unmatched strength in precision materials engineering,” said Mike Splinter. “I welcome him to the Board and have every confidence that his vision and personal drive will translate into remarkable success in leading Applied Materials as our next CEO.”
