On cue, First Solar said it had started construction of a 102MW (AC) PV power plant in Nyngan, New South Wales (NSW).
The plant was first announced in July 2013 and was planned to start construction in January 2014.
First Solar is providing engineering and procurement (EPC) services for the project and maintenance services for five years post commissioning, which is expected in mid-2015 for owner, AGL Energy, Australia’s largest PV developer.
A second plant (Broken Hill, NSW) that is to be built by First Solar for AGL Energy is expected to commence construction in mid-2014, which was previously planned to be a 53MW (AC) plant.
Funding comes from the Australian Renewable Agency (ARENA) and the NSW Government and valued at AUS$450 million and AUS$64.9 million respectively.
