The Exchange shopping centre in Gainesville, Florida is set to be fitted with one of the state’s largest rooftop arrays after new owners Nautilus Solar reached an agreement with Inman Solar to construct the 350kW project. Around 1,500 PV panels will populate the roof, covering an area of 46,000 square feet; building work is expected to be completed before the end of Q1.
Nautilus Solar purchased the project from BrightPath Energy and The Real Thing Solar Energy Services and will sell the electricity generated to local utility service provider Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) under its feed-in tariff. The FiT programme will see GRU pay a fixed price for the electricity over the next 20 years, while Nautilus will continue to manage and finance the system itself. Stafford Properties, the shopping centre’s owner, is to receive lease payments in exchange for hosting the system on its roof.
