The prime minister of the Spanish region of Extremadura, Jose Antonio Monagas and Gehrlicher Solar Spain’s CEO Guillermo Barea, have signed an agreement for the construction of a 250MW PV plant in the Extremadura region.
The construction of the plant, located on a 750 hectares site is expected to commence in 2013 and the estimated completion date is 2015. The plant will be developed and constructed without FiTs to support the project.
“This mega project impressively demonstrates that the PV industry, not only in Spain but throughout Europe, will be competitive even without subsidies,” said Gehrlicher Solar CEO Barea Guillermo. “With support from the government of Extremadura, this project will make a significant contribution to the 'renaissance' of the PV industry in Spain. I am convinced that mega-projects and internal consumption are the two most important building blocks for the future. The photovoltaic industry has only just started.”
