Retailer Ikea has announced plans to construct two more PV installations at facilities in the US, marking installations 18 and 19. Having installed PV systems on its store rooftops so far, the newly proposed locations are Ikea distribution centres in Perryville, Maryland and in Westhampton, New Jersey. Both installations will be constructed in the summer and the projects will be two of the largest commercial US rooftop systems. Once completed, the centres will generate a total of 4.92MW and be equipped with over 34,000 PV panels. As with previous installations, Ikea will both own and operate the systems.
“We are excited at the opportunity to increase our US solar presence further with solar energy systems atop these two east coast distribution centres,” said Mike Ward, IKEA US president. “With only 44 locations nationwide, we try to contribute whenever and wherever possible to creating a better everyday life for the many. These plans for installing solar panels on the roofs of two additional distribution centres demonstrate that our sustainable commitment extends beyond just stores, into all facets of the retail operations.”
