Home furnishing giant IKEA has completed the installation of a 2.2MW PV system on the roof of its distribution centre at Westhampton, New Jersey.
The installation represents the 37th on IKEA premises in the US, with the company aiming to install solar arrays on 90% of its buildings in America.
For the development, design and installation of the Westampton system, IKEA contracted Inovateus Solar, a distributor and integrator specialising in large-scale arrays.
“Installing solar panels atop this facility demonstrates that the company’s sustainable commitment extends beyond our stores into all facets of our supply chain operations,” said Tony Angotti, Westampton manager. “This solar array will reduce significantly the carbon footprint and electricity costs of this facility.”
IKEA owns and operates all of its solar systems, rather than operating them through a solar lease or power purchase agreement arrangement.
